Many Chinese Internal and External martial arts all include throwing techniques with in their own particular style, some more than others. The reason for this is that the Chinese martial artist looks at any type of throw as a finishing technique to a real fight situation. As most fights occur out doors, where the ground is very hard and uneven. So a throwing technique performed in this kind of enviroment is going to hurt. Especially a shoulder throw where the attacker is thrown over the back from a great height landing on his or her head, back or hips which could cause a lot of serious damage to the individuals spinal column or pelvis.
There are many types of shoulder throws in the Li Family Shuaijiao system, properly the two most common shoulder throws are shown below, which are performed from a hold or punch attack, where the attacker is then thrown over either one or both shoulders.
Obviously, when applying any type of throwing technioque with in the Li Family Internal martial arts they must be combined with (Jue Shou) sensing hands, sticking and listening energies and powerful palm strikes and kicks to either set up the throw or to be used after a throwing technique as been applied, as not every throw will be successful in actually finishing an attacker off. In the Li Family Internal Arts Association every student is encouraged to learn some aspect of the throwing techniques of the Li Family Shuaijiao system. Especially if they want to have a more balanced and complete martial art development, as any type of throw can be very fast, practical and a effective kind of tool to have at ones finger tips.
