Feng Shou Kung Fu

Feng Shou Kung Fu or "Hand of the Wind Boxing" is a Taoist internal martial art which teaches how to use the attackers aggression, balance and force against themselves.

Because of its principle of using "Softness to Overcome Hardness" the student of Feng Shou Quan must develop fast evasive footwork alongside powerful striking, kicking and devastating throwing methods.

My teacher Master Chee Soo told me that there was a soft (Yin) and a hard (Yang) side to the Feng Shou Quan-Gong Fu system. The soft (Yin) aspect of Feng Shou Quan is mainly used for defence, whereas the hard (Yang) aspect is used to attack.

The Feng Shou Quan training syllabus for all students from the complete beginner to advanced level as taught by the Li Family Internal Arts Association is as follows:

  1. Stances, Postures.
  2. Fast Evasive Footwork Drills.
  3. Yin & Yang Striking Drills.
  4. Kicking Drills.
  5. Yin Ward Offs, & Parrying Drills.
  6. Multiple Joint Locking Methods.
  7. Traditional Forms.
  8. Throws & Take Down Methods.
  9. Single & Multiple Attack Methods.
  10. Daoyin/Qugong Development Exercises.
  11. Weapon Training.
  12. Three Star Principle Drills.

Alongside the student training syllabus, there is also a Senior Black Sash Feng Shou Quan-Gong Fu Training Syllabus taught by the L.F.I.A.A.

Because of its Taoist origins, Feng Shou Quan incorporates the Taoist philosophical principles of Yin & Yang, Five Element Theory and the Eight Trigram or Bagua, continuous change theory of the Yi Jing as guidelines in its training.

The training is hard work, but enjoyable and fun with many benefits for Health, Fitness, Self Defence or a Way of Life.
